Dress Code

At Safe Start School, students do not wear a uniform. We encourage students to express their individuality through their clothing choices, while adhering to our dress code. This helps maintain a respectful and focused learning environment. Please ensure your attire is appropriate and aligns with our guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation in fostering a positive school atmosphere.

  • Practical and appropriate for the school environment, all weathers and activities

  • Comfortable and fitting to allow for normal activities and comfortable movement.

What to Avoid:

  • Revealing Clothing: No crop tops, tops that expose the midriff, underwear, or bottom, off-the-shoulder tops, strapless or backless tops

  • Lycra shorts or tight fitting all in one suits

  • Caps or hats worn indoors, or any item which obscures the face unless worn for religious purposes

  • Clothing which reveals underwear

  • Excessive Accessories: Limit excessive amounts of makeup or jewelry.

  • Inappropriate Footwear: No flip-flops, backless shoes, sliders or footwear with heels or wedges, due to health and safety concerns.

  • Offensive Content: No clothing with offensive or inappropriate logos, slogans, or imagery

Specific Considerations

  • Length Guidelines: Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be a modest length, typically at least mid-thigh.

  • Leggings: If leggings are worn, they must be paired with a top or skirt that provides coverage to at least mid-thigh length.

  • School Trips: For school trips and visits, students should adhere to the same "school appropriate" dress code to maintain a professional and safe environment.

Practical Tips

  • Choose Comfortable Options: Consider comfortable and practical clothing like tracksuits for ease of movement and versatility on different days.

  • Focus on Individuality: While allowing for self-expression, we expect that students will dress in a way that respects the school as a working environment.

Food and Drinks

At Safe Start School Tameside, we prioritise providing a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally and socially. Our school offers a variety of breakfast, break snacks, lunch and drink options to ensure that students stay energised throughout the day.

Providing meals at no cost to parents and carers helps students thrive by fueling their bodies and minds and removing barriers to learning, while eliminating the stigma that can be associated with free lunch programs, creating a more inclusive environment for all students.

Both students and staff sharing meals together builds a stronger school community - helping students build social skills and develop a sense of belonging. The dining hall becomes a positive and welcoming space where everyone is nourished and cared for.
